Psalm 21

Read this passage!

To GOD be the GLORY….

Recently I was talking with a friend and she attributed an accomplishment of mine to someone else. I immediately responded to correct her and ‘gently’ let her know that I had done that. I did not point to God. ‘My’ accomplishment had been born out of prayer and trusting God’s guidance and his empowering – yet, I did not attribute it to Him at all. I needed her to know that I had done that. Ouch! I was immediately convicted, but even still did nothing to point UP.

In today’s passage, David, who had plenty to boast about, is celebrating major victory – the victory in battle described in the previous chapter. The thing is that ALL of the honor and glory and praise go UP – to the Father. David takes no credit. David feels no need to point to himself or pat himself on the back. The victory is all GOD’s. MAJOR VICTORY…

How can WE live this out today?

“So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it ALL for the glory of God.”
-1 Cor 10:31

How many times do we ask, receive and move on – with no celebration? May we ALL celebrate HIS every victory in our lives!

To GOD be the GLORY…

  2. Thank you, Denise, for your authenticity. Your devotional is very convicting. Only God deserves the glory - Amen!

  3. Thank you for this devotional!! Because everything I am is because of GOD’s Love, Grace, and Mercy. He Loves us when we do not know how to Love ourselves. ALL PRAISE AND GLORY TO GOD!!

  4. So true. How often do we (I’m self reflecting on your comments), not only take credit for the blessings in our life, but deny God his true glory. It is easy (at least for me) to fall into this pattern, especially in the workplace environment. Thanks for the reflection.

  5. Am I the only one shocked at the violence in this Psalm? God will put his enemies in a “blazing oven” when he appears, and “swallow them up in his wrath and fire will consume them”. Verses 10, 11, and 12 go into more violent detail in how God will “aim at their faces with your bows.” Word to the wise: be sure you’re on God’s team! God’s overwhelming power is and strength is beyond what we mere humans can bear. Thank God for his grace!

  6. Thank you for this perspective! I could have gotten stuck in the “doings” of God instead of focusing on His Glory!
