Psalm 105:23-45

Read this passage!

The true story behind Psalm 105 happened centuries before Israel ever became a nation.  In Genesis 15, God makes this promise to Abraham:

“Know for certain that your descendants will be strangers in a country not their own, and they will be enslaved and mistreated four hundred years.  But I will punish the nation they serve as slaves, and afterward they will come out with great possessions”  (Genesis 15:13-14)

In Psalm 105, the writer reflects back on the faithfulness of God.  Israel did enter Egypt just as God had said (vs. 23); God did lead them out just as He had promised (vs. 26 and 43); God punished Egypt just as He had prophesied (vs. 28-36); and God sent Israel out with great possessions (vs. 37).  Verse by verse, section by section the history of Israel’s Exodus is revisited as a way of reminding the reader that God does indeed care for His people.

The point of the Psalm is simple:  Give thanks, sing to Him, remember His name and praise the Lord because God delivers on His promises. He can be trusted.  He will be faithful.  He has proven it time and time again.

I don’t know what mountain you’re facing or what obstacles the week ahead may hold, but I do know this: God will be faithful because being faithful isn’t just something God does - it’s who He is.

“Praise the Lord.”
