Psalm 35 was written by David as a prayer calling out for rescue from enemies. David had many of them at differing times in his life. Sometimes, we too have enemies and seem to be surrounded by trials and troubles. David, however, does not attempt a quick fix or an easy step-by-step solution. He instead turns to the Lord.
“O Lord” (Psalm 35:1) is David’s cry to the Lord. Today, we would be sending out an “OMG”, which for those who are text illiterate means, Oh My God. What is meant as a sign of exasperation and frustration should really become a one-line prayer. Oh my God, I need you. Oh my God, help!
So many times when we face people, situations, concerns or problems , we try to solve them or handle them ourselves, when what God wants, what He is waiting for, is for us to call on Him. “OMG.” So when the the chips are down and we are surrounded by enemies, like David we should call out and know that the Lord will be there.
When the world seems to be closing in on us, we need to simply stop and, as David did, call to the Lord and say, “O Lord, do not be far from me.” (Psalm 35:22) It does not have to be a tragedy or some momentous concern. God is God of the all issues, even those that we see as “too minor or insignificant” to bother Him with. God is there, waiting, ready and eager to help those who call on him, so call out, “OMG”.
